Victory, podium and pole position for vortex at the WSK Final Cup
At the championship’s opening round in Franciacorta, the OTK Kart Group’s ‘engine division’ dominated the OK-N category final with the VTS-N engine and finished second in the OK class, having secured pole position in qualifying.
OK-N – The Vortex VTS-N kicked off the WSK Final Cup with an overall victory in the final. The engine from the OTK Kart Group’s ‘engine division’ secured two first places and two second places, as well as a third place and a fastest lap in the qualifying heats, before going on to win the pre-final as well.
In the final, Jenson Eric Burns (Tony Kart Racing Team) started from the front row and took the lead as early as the opening lap. The Australian held onto the lead firmly throughout the race and crossed the finish line first, also taking the championship lead.
Lucas Bonhomme (Jana Racing) finished the final just outside the top five, whilst Rayan Carré (Jana Racing) secured a top-10 finish. Also taking part in the race were Andrea Giudice (Tony Kart Racing Team), who was recently crowned WSK Euro Series champion, and Valerio De Gaetano (PRK).
OK – The Vortex VTS kicked off the weekend with pole position in qualifying, thanks to a time of 47.044 seconds set in Group 2 by Ilie Tristan Crisan (Tony Kart Racing Team). In the subsequent qualifying heats, the engine from the OTK Kart Group’s ‘engine division’ secured two victories and two fastest laps, as well as second place in Sunday morning’s pre-final.
In the final, Crisan started from the second row and immediately moved up to second place, securing the middle step of the podium at the end of the 18 laps. Valerio Viapiana (Tony Kart Racing Team) narrowly missed out on the top three, whilst Endo Arata (Tony Kart Racing Team) finished the race without incident.
OKJ – The Vortex VTJ received positive feedback right from qualifying, with Julian Frasnelli (Tony Kart Racing Team) taking second place in Group 2 and Stepan Mazepin (Tony Kart Racing Team) finishing fourth in Group 1. In the subsequent qualifying heats, our kart secured a win and a third place, before also triumphing in Sunday morning’s Pre-Final B.
Right from the start of the final, Frasnelli joined the battle for second place, but a collision sent him off the track and caused him to lose several positions, preventing him from capitalising on the form he had shown earlier in the weekend.
Emerson MacAndrew-Uren (Tony Kart Racing Team), fresh from his victory in the last round of the FIA Karting European Championship, finished the final in the top 10, followed by Augustin Feligioni (Tony Kart Racing Team) and Yubo Wen (Tony Kart Racing Team). Antonio Ianni (Tony Kart Racing Team) staged a comeback, climbing 12 places, whilst Mazepin made up 11.
OKJ-N – The Vortex VTS-N secured second place as its best result in the qualifying heats. In Sunday afternoon’s final, Li Linghan (Tony Kart Racing Team) stood out with a comeback from 17 places down. Also on the starting grid were Giuseppe Noviello (Tony Kart Racing Team) and Can Tuzuner (Tony Kart Racing Team).
MINI Gr.3 – The Vortex VTM set the fastest time in Group 1 of qualifying with Alfie Richard Mair (Tony Kart Racing Team) at the wheel and, in the subsequent qualifying heats, secured a win, a second place and two fastest laps. The engine further improved its tally with a win and third place in Sunday morning’s Pre-final B.
In the final, Mair moved up to second place in the opening stages and remained firmly among the main contenders for the podium until the final lap, when a collision sent him off the track and caused him to lose ground. David Johannes Aagten (Tony Kart Racing Team), meanwhile, made up eight places and finished the race in the top five.
The final also featured Zane Pace (Tony Kart Racing Team), Farel Beretta Dugat (Tony Kart Racing Team) and Alvaro Medeiros (Tony Kart Racing Team).
MINI Gr.3 U10 – The Vortex VTM remains near the top of the standings with Romeo Ferrante (Tony Kart Racing Team), who rounded off the weekend with a top-10 finish in the final. Aiden Moreira (Tony Kart Racing Team) was also among the Vortex-powered drivers competing in the final race.
